TIME ZONES A Global Journey Through Drawing
With Pen & Ink Artist John Green
through June 1, 2009
at
Arlington Green Executive Centre, 2101 S. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington
Heights, IL
Gallery open Monday-Friday 9am-5pm, Saturday 9am-Noon
With almost 500 pen and ink artistic works behind him, each reflective of the location where they were drawn, John has organized over 50 select pieces into a grouping called his Time Zones series. This body of work reflects unique cultural or natural observations transformed to pen and ink that envelop the world both in representation of the physical time zones of the globe and the historic transitions through countless cultural time zones from Aboriginal to Zulu. This collection of drawings expresses impressions and images from a variety of world cultures, many of which either have been lost to us or, unfortunately, are rapidly being consumed by modern technology and interaction with other cultures.
In order to share something that is extremely difficult to reveal his view and feelings while drawing each piece John has composed verses to accompany almost 40 of his Time Zones drawings, giving the owner a gift -- a unique perspective on the inspiration behind the art. While each drawing stands on its own, the verses created for some of the Time Zones works are based on actual observations made at the time and place the drawing was created.
This is the second time the Council has had the pleasure of presenting exciting work and insights by John Green.
